  1. Hi, I’m a Canadian / Chilean young woman studying pedagogy specifically in the English language; I am living in Punta Arenas, Chile. Punta Arenas is a fairly small city but very attractive. The weather here is very different for other places in the world, our summer starts in December but it’s not really hot, in fact we often experience the four seasons all in one day; something extraordinary to experience! In March we start our fall season which is very beautiful and in June we start our winter which is very cold and icy but the landscapes are impressive you can go skiing and have an ocean view. Spring begins in September but the climate doesn’t vary a great deal, every season also has very strong winds. So that’s a little bit of Punta Arenas, how does this differ to the climate of Illinois?

  4. Hi! I'm Jessica, I'm 23 years old and currently I'm in fourth year of English Pedagogy in Magellan's University, I live in Punta Arenas which is the southernmost city of the region!!. The weather here is quite cold with an average temperature which varies between 4° and 12° degrees regularly, so as you might guess we have chilly winters though we are not very worried about it, we even celebrate this with a carnival!! lol!
:-). Well that all for now, but what about you? I would like to know more about you, for example what do you do for fun? have you got any special celebration in your city?. Bye bye!

  5. Hello!

I’m Andrea Torres. I live in Punta Arenas, a Southern city from Chile. I’m a 23-year-old girl, who is studying to become a teacher of English at Universidad de Magallanes.

I am not from Punta Arenas, all my family live in another part of the country called Chiloe (It’s an Island Located at the North of Punta Arenas). I really hate the weather in Punta Arenas; it’s too cold and “Windy” even in summer! Sadly, I have a cold .

What I like the most about Punta Arenas are my friends, my career and the beautiful landscape. There is a national park called Torres del Paine. It is wonderful for tourists to visit because you really feel in contact with the surrounding nature.

But not everything is studies :-)! I do several things related to sports. I love all kind of sports - in my spare time I go jogging and practice body combat (a sort of mixture of Martial Arts). These activities help me a lot, especially to relax and forget studies for a while.

Sorry if I’m boring you, but writing letters “is not my cup of tea”, even though I like to be in contact with pen friends :-). Now, tell me about yourself. How old are you? What kind of things do you like to do, and why? Do you have any Hobbies? Tell me about your city and its weather. Its customs and everything - I’m eager to know about you.

Well I hope to hear from you soon! I’ll be waiting for your letter.

    Bye
    Andrea :-)

  6. Hi I`m viviana well I`m so sorry I should have written my letter yesterday, but I had some technical problems. I come from Coyhaique a far away city which is located at the south of chile, however is at the north of punta arenas. now I`m living in parenas because I`m studying to become an english teacher, I hope so. Yesterday I had an amazing experince I went to see penguins and they were so gorgeous. they were so cute I wish I could eat them, but that is forbidden I could go to jail, so bad. AH and at night I went to a party but it sucks everybody was drunk ... I did not touch a drop I swear. ah and also the weather is so bizarre... uh spooky. today I will go to visit a museum I do not remember the name of it, I`m so absent- minded. my little friends good bye and enjoy life!!!! ah do not forgel to tell me about you

  8. Hello I am Miguel Asencio, I am also a student of English language, here we study a course that is already structured according to the subjects that one has to take. I am twenty four years and live in Sandy Point that would be Punta Arenas. Something that I can tell is that last year I was living in Davis, California and I also attended the UC Davis. Therefore, I know some of your culture too. I also did a short practicum in which I taught English to Mexican and Pakistani students, it was an excellent experience. Now I am in fourth year the penultimate year . In addition to this I am really fond of playing guitar ( I know a lot about theory) and chess. If you want to compare our cultures please let me know I will be joyful to help. Bye

  12. Hi Miranda, the whole seasons thing is nice but you are right it does get boring at times, I myself also really like having the four seasons as they are suposed to be!! how big is Elmhurst? Punta arenas is kindof small approx. 120,000 people live hear. I would say its not my favorite part of the world but being at the end of the word does have its advantages, the landscape is beautiful and you have a lot of outdoor activities that can keep you busy.
Im not a huge sports fan but i used to do competitive swimming and thats the only spot i really enjoy! its really awsome that you have a lot of activities to keep you busy!!
I love all kinds of animals too and i have a pet myself, also a dog named Chiqui (it means tiny) even though hes not, hes a golden retrevier and hes the best!!
i hope to hear from you soon! and take good care of yourself,
Betty (you can call me that)
    Bye for now!!

  13. Hi! my name is Catalina, and I am 22 years old; I am studying in Magallanes University for being an English teacher.
I live in Punta Arenas city, located in the very south of Chile. It is a very beautiful city, though it's very windy and cold, sometimes even in summer!
One of the things I like the most of Patagonia is the beautiful landscape it has. Even though it is a small city, Punta Arenas has a lot of touristic places, as well as its surroundings.
Well , there's so much other things I'd love to share with you about my land, but first I'd like you to tell me about yourselves. how is the place where you live, what do you enjoy doing, etc. I'd love to hear from you soon
    Bye, bye
